சுனாமியால் ஏற்பட்ட தேசிய அனர்த்தம் சம்பந்தமாக ஐக்கிய நாடுகள் சபை செயலாளர் நாயகம் மேன்மைதாங்கிய கோபி அனானின் சமூகத்தில் மேன்மைதங்கிய ஐனாதிபதியின் தலைமையில் கடந்த 09ம் திகதி ஞாயிற்றுக்கிழமை கூட்டப்பட்ட கூட்டத்தில் தமிழ்த் தேசிய கூட்டமைப்பின் பாராளுமன்றக் குழுத் தலைவர் என்ற முறையில் தங்களால் சமர்ப்பிக்கப்பட்ட அறிக்கை எனக்கு பெரும் ஏமாற்றத்தை தருகின்றது. வடக்கிற்கு போதிய நிவாரணம் அனுப்பப்படவில்லையென்கின்ற விடுதலைப்புலிகளின் குற்றச்சாட்டை நீங்கள் சரியென்றோ, தவறென்றோ ஓரு வார்த்தையேனும் கூறவில்லை. இக்குற்றச்சாட்டு உண்மையானதாக இருந்தால், அரசாங்கம் பாகுபாடாக நடக்கின்றது என்பதை அம்பலப்படுத்தும் மிகப் பெரிய வாய்ப்பை இழந்துவீட்டிர்கள். நான் யாருக்கும் வக்காளத்து வாங்கவில்லை. ஆனால் நாம் உண்மை என்னவென்பதை அறிய விரும்புகின்றோம். சகல நாட்டிலும் தன் கட்டுப்பாட்டில் உள்ள சகல ஊடகங்களையும் பாவித்து அரசு பாகுபாடுகாட்டுவதாகவும் வடக்கை புறக்கணிப்பதாகவும் கடும் பிரசாரத்தில் ஈடுபட்டுள்ளனர். தமிழர் புனர்வாழ்வுக் கழகத்தின் வேண்டுகோளை ஏற்று அரசியல் வேறுபாடின்றி பிறநாட்டில் வாழுகின்ற எம்மக்கள் தாராளமாக வாரி வழங்கியுள்ளனர். இந்த நாட்டிலும் வெளிநாட்டிலும் வாழுகின்ற மக்கள் உண்மை நிலை என்ன என்பதை அறிய ஆவலாய் உள்ளனர்.

உலகின் பல நாடுகளில் இருந்தும் அகதிகளுக்கு தேவையான பலதரப்பட்ட பெருமளவு நிவாரணப் பொருட்கள் கப்பல்களிலும் 150க்கு மேற்பட்ட விமானங்களிலும் வந்து இறங்கியுள்ளன. தொடர்ந்தும் வந்து கொண்டிருக்கின்றன. 50 நாடுகளுக்கு மேல் பெருமளவில் உதவ முன்வந்ததோடு ஏற்கனவே நிவாரணப் பொருட்களையும் அனுப்பியுள்ளன. அப்படியிருந்தும் எம் மக்கள் முறைப்படி கவனிக்கப்படாமல் இருந்தால் குற்றவாளி யார்? வடகிழக்கை பொறுத்த அளவில் அனர்த்தம் சம்பந்தமாக விவாதிப்பற்காக ஐனாதிபதி பிரதம அமைச்சர் கூட்டிய மாநாடுகளில் வடகிழக்கில் மூன்றில் இரண்டு பாராளுமன்ற ஆசனங்களை பெற்றுள்ளதாக தம்பட்டம் அடிக்கும் நீங்களும் உங்கள் குழுவினரும் கலந்து கொண்டு அரசாங்கத்தின் குறைபாடுகளை அம்பலப்படுத்தியிருக்கவேண்டும். அந்த வாய்ப்புக்களை தவற விட்டுவீட்டீர்கள் அரசாங்கம் சரியாக நடக்கின்றதா? தவறாக நடக்கின்றதா? என்பதல்ல பிரச்சினை. அரசாங்கத்தை சரியாக செயற்படவைக்கவேண்டிய பொறுப்பில் இருந்து தவறிவிட்டீர்கள். இதுவே நான் கூறும் குற்றச்சாட்டாகும். இது பாதிக்கப்பட்ட மக்களுக்கு செய்யும் துரோகமாகத் தோன்றவில்லையா?

மேன்மை தங்கிய கோபி அனான், சமூகம் கொடுத்திருந்த கூட்டத்தில் தனியாரிடமிருந்தும், அரச சார்பற்ற நிறுவனங்களிடமிருந்தும் வரும் நிவாரணப் பணிகளில் அரசு தலையீடு இருக்க்கூடாது என்பதையே குறிப்பீட்டுக் கூறியுள்ளீர்கள். இது எவ்வாறு சுனாமியால் பாதிக்கப்பட்டவர்களுக்கு உதவும் என்று நினைக்கீன்றீர்கள். இவ்வனர்த்தத்தால் ஏற்பட்ட பாதிப்புக்களை செயற்படுத்துவதற்கு வடகிழக்கில் ஓர் அமைப்பு உருவாக்கப்பட வேண்டும் என்பதை மறைமுகமாகவும் சுட்டிக்காட்டியுள்ளீர்கள். மேலும் சொல்லப் போனால் அகதிளைப் பராமரிக்கும் பொறுப்பை விடுதலைப்புலிகளிடம் கையளிக்குமாறு மறைமுகமாக கேட்டுள்ளீர்கள். இவ்வாலோசனையை நீங்கள் மிகவும் புத்திசாதுர்யமாக கூறியிருந்தாலும் கூட உங்களால் அதனை சரியாக நியாhப்படுத்தமுடியவில்லை. மாகாண சபை மூலமாகவோ, மாவட்ட ரீதியாகவோ, பிரதேச செயலாளர்கள் ஊடாகவோ பல தரப்பட்ட ஊழியர்களை இந்தப் பணிக்கு பயன்படுத்தமுடியாதா?

திரு.சம்பந்தன் அவர்களே! இந்த அனர்த்தத்தால் 40,000க்கு மேற்பட்ட மக்கள் இறந்திருக்கின்றார்கள் பல்லாயிரக்கணக்கானோர் விதவைகளாகவும், அநாதைகளாவும் ஆக்கப்பட்டுள்ளார்கள். உயிர் தப்பியவர்கள் வீடு உட்பட அனைத்தையும் இழந்த நிலையில் எஞ்சியுள்ளது அனர்த்தம் நடந்த போது அவர்கள் உடலில் இருந்த உடை மட்டுமே. இன்று அவர்களின் தேவைகள் பலதரப்பட்டவை. சுனாமி அனர்த்த்தால் பாதிக்கப்பட்ட அகதிகளுக்கு உதவுவதற்காக பல கோடி ரூபாவை அந்நியச் செலாவாணியாக தமிழர் புனர்வாழ்வுக் கழகம் சேர்த்திருந்தாலும், இதே போன்று பத்து கழகங்கள் ஓன்றிணைந்து மேலும் பல கோடி ரூபாய்களை சேர்த்தாலும் பாதிக்கப்பட்ட மக்களின் ஓரு சிறு பகுதியையேனும் பூர்த்தி செய்யமுடியாது. தயவு செய்து சம்பந்தப்பட்டவர்களுக்கு இது ஓரு பகிடியான விடயம் அல்ல என்பதை உணர்த்துங்கள். இன்றைய தேவை அனைவரின் ஓத்துழைப்புடன் கூடிய மிகக் கவனமாக திட்டமிடப்பட்ட செயற்பாடேயாகும்.

திரு.சம்பந்தன் அவர்களே! தாங்கள் நீண்ட அரசியல் அனுபவமும், முதிர்ச்சியும் கொண்டவர்கள். நீங்கள் வழி நடத்த வேண்டியவரே, பிறரால் வழிநடத்தப்படுபவர் ஆகக் கூடாது. வரலாறு காணாத படுமோசமாக பாதிக்கப்பட்ட மக்களுக்கு, நாட்டு வேற்றுமை, அரசியல் வேற்றுமையின்றி பல்வேறுவகையான உதவிகள் தேவைப்படுகின்றன. இந்த நேரத்தில் அவர்களின் துன்பத்தை உணராது நீரோ மன்னனைப் போல் பிடில் வாசிக்கீன்றீர்கள். இந்த சந்தர்ப்பத்தில் வடகிழக்கு பிரதிநிதித்துவத்தில் மூன்றில் இரண்டு ஆசனங்களை பெற்றது பற்றியும், தமிழ் மக்களின் ஆணைபற்றியும் புழுகுவது தேவையற்றதாகும். இவ்வேளையில் தங்களின் கருத்துக்கு மறுப்புத் தெரிவிப்பது அசிங்கமாகத் தோன்றும், தயவு செய்து தேர்தல் கண்காணிப்பு குழுக்கள் நான்கின் அறிக்கைகளை இதுவரை படித்திராவிட்டால், தாங்களும் படித்துவிட்டு உங்கள் நண்பர்களுக்கும் காட்டவும். திரு. கோபி அனான் அவர்கள் நிச்சயமாக அதைப் படித்திருப்பார். தயவு செய்து இதைப்பற்றி இனிமேல் பேசி உங்களை நீங்களே அவமானப்படுத்திக் கொள்ளார்தீர்கள். அனர்த்தத்தால் பாதிக்கப்பட்ட மக்களுக்கு உதவுவதற்கு மூன்றில் இரண்டு பெரும்பான்மை தேவைப்படாது.

பல்வேறு மருந்துப் பொருட்களுடன் வைத்திய நிபுணர்கள், கனரக வாகனங்கள், வானூர்திகள், கூடாரங்கள் போன்றவற்றையும், சில நாடுகள் நிவாரணப் பணியில் ஈடுபடுவதற்காக இராணுவத்தினரையும் அனுப்பியுள்ளன. இந் நிலையில் ஓரு பாராளுமன்ற உறுப்பினர் இராணுவத்தை வடக்கே அனுப்பாதே எனக் கர்சித்து தன் அறியாமையை வெளிப்படுத்தியமையும் நான் அறிவேன். இத்தகைய பேச்சுக்களால் பாதிக்கப்படுவது நானோ, நீங்களோ, அந்த உறுப்பினரோ அல்ல, பாதிக்கப்பட்ட மக்களே!

வெளிநாட்டில் இருந்து வந்து சேர்ந்த மருந்துகளுடன் வைத்திய கலாநிதிகள், வானூர்திகளில் பல்வேறு இடங்களுக்கும் சென்று வைத்தியம் பார்க்கின்றபோது நான் பொறாமைப்படவில்லை. உள்ளதைப் பெற்று எமது மக்களுக்கும் உதவ முடியவில்லையே என வேதனைப்படுகின்றேன். பிற நாட்டு இராணுவம் கொண்டு வந்த கனரக வாகனங்களால், வீதிகள் பாலங்கள் அமைக்கப்படுவதைக் கண்டு நான் பொறாமைகொள்ளவில்லை. எமது பகுதி மக்களுக்கும் அதைப் பெற்றுக்கொடுக்க எமது பாராளுமன்ற உறுப்பினர்களால் ஏன் முடியவில்லை என்பதே எனது ஆதங்கம்.

பாதிக்கப்பட்ட மாவட்டங்களில் உள்ள 31 பிரதிநிதிகளில், தமிழ்த் தேசிய கூட்டமைப்பைத் தவிர்ந்த ஏனைய உறுப்பினர்கள் தம் தம் கடமையை சரிவரச் செய்கின்றார்கள். எம்மவர்கள் மட்டும் தம்கடமையைச் செய்யாது யார் யாரையோ திட்டித் தீர்த்துக் கொண்டிருக்கின்றார்கள். உடனடியாக வடகிழக்கைப் பிரதிநிதித்துவப்படுத்தும் பாராளுமன்ற உறுப்பினர்கள் அனைவரும், ஐனாதிபதி, பிரதம மந்திரி மற்றும் சம்பந்தப்பட்ட அமைச்சர்களைச் சந்தித்து தமது பங்களிப்பை செய்யவேண்டுமென கேட்டுக்கொள்கின்றேன். தவறும் பட்சத்தில் எதிர்கால சந்ததி எம் எல்லோரையும் சபிக்கும் என்பதையும் பாதிக்கப்பட்ட மக்களுக்கு நாம் செய்யும் துரோகம் என்பதையும் தெரிவித்துக்கொள்கிள்றேன். அதே நேரத்தில் சகல கரையோரப் பகுதிகளிலும், நிவாரணப் பணியினை மேற்கொள்ள வந்திருப்பவர்கள் சுதந்திரமாக செயற்பட வாய்ப்பினை பெற்றுக் கொடுக்குமாறும் மன்றாட்டமாக கேட்டுக் கொள்கின்றேன்.

Dear Mr. Sampanthan,

I am thoroughly disappointed with the statement made by you, in your capacity as the Leader of the T.N.A ’s Parliamentary Group, at a meeting held on Sunday the 9th presided over by Her Excellency the President attended by His Excellency Kofi Annan. The Meeting was held to discuss the National Disaster caused by the Tsunami.

In your statement you had not said one word either in support of or against the L.T.T.E ‘s claim that the Government is not sending sufficient relief to the victims in the North. If the LTTE’s accusation is true, this is the best forum in which you could have exposed the Government’s acting partially. I am not holding a brief to any one, but we want to know the truth. The LTTE is using both electronic and print Media under its control all over the world, to accuse the Government of showing partiality and neglecting the North. Tamils living abroad, in response to the appeal of the TRO irrespective of their party affiliations are contributing liberally and the TRO must have collected several Millions in Foreign currency. People here and abroad wish to know the truth.

Relief items had come from all over the world. Several ship loads and over 150 plane loads of relief items, of all varieties needed for victims are flowing in everyday. About 50 Countries had promised aid and are doing their best. Under the present circumstances, in spite of the fact that relief items are available in plenty, if the victims are not looked after properly who is to be blamed?

As far as the North and the East are concerned, it is you who should have attended meetings convened by the Prime Minister and Her Excellency the President and organized relief works in consultation with them. You and your team of Members of Parliament who claim to have 2/3 rd of the representation for the North and East should have exposed the Government if the Government is showing partiality. You have failed in your duty. That is my charge against you.

At the meeting with the UN’s Secretary General His Excellency Kofi Annan your statement only highlighted the LTTE’s demand that the Government should not interfere with the relief coming from individual and non Governmental Organizations.

Can you tell us how it will help the poor victims of the Tsunami? Reading in-between the lines you have hinted about some mechanism in the North and East to deal with the calamity. In other words you want the entire responsibility to be handed over to the Tigers to deal with the Tsunami victims. Although you put your ideas cleverly, I am sorry to say it did not appear to be convincing. You should know that the GA and his staff are capable of handling the situation at the District level and also there is a Provincial Council which is capable of dealing with any situation, in the North – East Provincial Council areas.

Mr. Sampanthan, please don’t forget that over 40,000 people have died in this Country and many thousands are widowed and orphaned. Who ever survived had only the cloth they were wearing as their only possession, having lost everything - their dwelling places in particular. Their needs are many. Not one NGO, even if ten NGO’s like the TRO which collected several Millions in Foreign Exchange for the Tsunami Victims, get together they can’t meet even a fraction of the requirements of the victims. Please advise the concerned parties that this is no joke. Serious planning and co-operation of all is necessary.

Mr. Sampanthan, you are a very Senior Politician with very wide experience and maturity. You must give the lead and not led by others. When I read your statement I was only reminded of “Nero playing fiddle when Rome was burning”. You also don’t play fiddle when people had suffered the worst in the history of this Country and needing help in every kind and from every source, irrespective of party affiliations or from whichever country the Aid comes from.

Your boast of winning 2/3 rd of the representation in Parliament and getting a mandate from the People of the North and East are all irrelevant. I am sure you would have read the reports of the four Election Monitoring teams and that of the European Commission’s team in particular. His Excellency Kofi Annan also would have read it. You will loose your credibility if you go on boasting about this anymore. Please stop saying this. To help a man in distress you don’t need 2/3 rd majority. Although this is irrelevant and looks very ugly to talk about at this juncture, I don’t want your claim to go unchallenged, since the truth is something else and very well knows all over.

Large stock of Medicines, specialist Doctors heavy equipments, helicopters, tents etc. had been sent by Foreign Countries. Some had even sent the Engineering Division of their Army too to get engaged in relief work. One in your team of Members of Parliament showed his ignorance by protesting against any army unit being sent to the North. This type of speeches won’t help anybody. The loosers are poor victims of the Tsunami.

I don’t feel jealous when I see Foreign Doctors going from place to place in their helicopters treating the patients. My regret is that the victims in the North are not benefited by this. I don’t feel jealous to see foreign soldiers getting involved in the constructions of bridges and roads. My worry is why; the TNA Parliamentarians don’t take the trouble to get similar help for their areas as well.

Of the 31 Members of Parliament from the North and East except the TNA’s 22 Members, the rest are doing their duty. TNA Members are wasting their time in finding faults in others. I humbly request you and the other TNA Members of the North and East to meet the President, the Prime Minister and other concerned Ministers and do what is best for the Tsunami victims. If you fail to do this, the poor victims will consider this lapse as treacherous and the future generation will curse you. I also plead with these Members to do everything possible to enable everyone who had come to do relief work to go to any part of the area you represent and work freely.

Please take these suggestions seriously and do the needful.

THE TSUNAMI VICTIMS AND THE SETTLEMEN OF THE ETHNIC PROBLEM

The Tsunami Victims and the settlement of the Ethnic Problem

This is my forth letter to you and perhaps the last one in this connection. I need not tell you that the destruction and the horror caused by the Tsunami are unprecedented and unheard of in the history of our Country. There is no guarantee that this catastrophe will not be repeated. The destruction need not be by sea. It could be from the land or the sky as well. Therefore no one can rejoice that he or she had escaped from this calamity.

Within a few minutes, several happy families were broken separated and destroyed. Hundreds of thousands have become paupers and their houses razed to the ground. How many thousand dead bodies, including those of small babies came floating? How many thousands have been widowed and orphaned? Having lost everything and only with their cloths they were wearing, the rich and the poor, the young and the old, weeping and wailing reached the adjoining villages for help. They were received with open arms by the villagers who without any difference, fed them and looked after them well without waiting for the Government machinery to start working. The Members of Parliament, of Provincial Councils, of Local Bodies and other Local Organizations joined them.

The Sinhalese, Tamils and Muslims without any differences worked hand in hand. The Clergy of all religions organized refugee camps and looked after people of all faith and community. Muslims have saved Tamils and the Tamils have saved Muslims. Sinhalese women had carried food parcels on their heads and shoulders, for Tamil and Muslim refugees by walking five to eight miles, to villages where the roads had been washed off. The national disaster had fused all the three communities in to one. When the whole world is mourning for our victims it is a pity to see some people among us, trying to fish in troubled waters.

India, our closest neighbor, in response to the appeal of the Government came with medicine etc. within hours of the occurrence of the Tsunami and still continuing. Since then more and more aid started coming in from many Countries all over the World. Many ships load and 135 planes load had come for the refugees. Apart form this local people from all walks of life, the Business Community, employers, employees, up-country workers have all given their shares. Above all even small children have given their savings to the refugees.

The donors big or small, local or foreign expect their donations to be fairly distributed without any discrimination. The national disaster should have taught a lesson to all of us. It is unfortunate that some have not learnt it. Do we need another calamity to learn it?

You know me for several years. I am not greedy for power. Some who do not know me, and the novices in Politics could say anything. In fact they had said much about me. If I am greedy for power I would have been in Parliament today. I missed several opportunities in my life as a politician for the sake of my principles. Please rest assured that I am writing this letter with very good intentions. We have missed several opportunities that came on our way to find the lasting solution to our problems. Let us not miss the last opportunity that the nature had created by its destructive act.

The attention of the International Community had been focused on Sri Lanka since the Cease Fire Agreement was signed between you and the Government. Today the International Community is watching the developments in the Country and every step you take should be a thoughtful one and also acceptable to the International Community.

Those who prepared the Interim Self Governing Authority (ISGA), proposals should have known that these proposals will not be accepted by anyone as a reasonable one. The Tamils themselves will not accept it; neither the Sinhalese nor the Muslims. The International Community too feels that the deadlock in the talks is due to this unreasonable demand. There was agitation in Tamil Nadu India for separation long ago which was successfully suppressed with out any violence against anybody. Tamil Nadu is now satisfied with the Powers it enjoys today. I want you to reconsider the demands of yours and agree for a settlement based on a federal constitution which will be very heavily backed by all.

Every one of this Country is keen in finding a solution to the ethnic problem. I am personally of the opinion that this is the best time for it. Everybody is in a mood to adopt a give and take policy. The Government and the Opposition the religious dignitaries of all faith the Sinhalese, the Tamils, the Muslims and all other small minority groups will support a Federal Constitution, as a solution to our problem. I will not accept the JVP as a Communal Party. They are only opposed to the ISGA, but I hope that they will not oppose a Federal Constitution, since they are for equal rights for everybody, a principle that every body should appreciate. I am very sure that the International Community will not only back this proposal, they will even go out of the way to help us to draft a Constitution that will satisfy the aspirations of all sections of the people. Please consider this suggestion, which I feel is the most feasible one at this juncture, with your key members and take a wise decision. Like some others I do not endorsed or condone all activities of your cadre. I am of the opinion that most of those who claim to be your supporters in Sri Lanka or abroad maim your name by their activities. I wish to point out, that some of their activities have brought discredit for you. Therefore please be warned about them.

In conclusion I wish to emphasize that due to your lapses the areas under your control and the Vadamaradchi East are going to be deprived of the foreign aid that is coming in abundance for the relief, rehabilitation and reconstruction work of the refugees. No Foreign Government will ever agree to deal with an Organization with out the consent of the Government. Therefore even if all the 22 MP’s plead with the International Community on your behalf they will not succeed. I am sure at least some of these MPs know this very well. Kindly see that the Federal Party MPs fight with the Government and get the victims their due share without issuing statements and giving silly interviews. At a time when Heads of many states and representatives of World Organizations like the UN meet and discuss various measures our indifference will be construed as a treacherous act committed against the Tsunami victims.

மேன்மைதங்கிய ஜனாதிபதி சந்திரிகா பண்டாரநாயக்கா அவர்களுக்கு

இத்தனை அனர்த்தங்கள் நடந்த பின்னும் இனிமேலாவது நாம் அனைவரும் கட்சிபேதங்களை இனமதமொழி வேறுபாடுகளை எல்லாம் தூக்கிஎறிந்துவிட்டு ஒன்றுபட்டு செயற்படவேண்டும் என்ற தங்களின் கூற்றையே நானும் கொண்டுள்ளேன்.

இந்த சூழ்நிலையில் கடற்புலிகளின் தளபதி சூசை அவர்கள் வீரகேசரிக்கு அளித்த பேட்டியில் வடக்கில் வாழுகின்ற தமிழர்களுக்கு அரசு பாகுபாடு காட்டுவதாகவும் நிவாரண உதவிகள் எதுவும் சரிவரக் கிடைக்கவில்லை எனவும் தென் இலங்கை அரசியல்வாதிகள் எவரும் பாதிக்கப்பட்ட பகுதிகளையும், மக்களையும்வந்து பார்க்கவில்லை என விசனத்துடன் கூறியுள்ளார். எனவே தாங்கள் இக்கருத்தை மறுக்கும்வகையில் இதுவிடயத்தில் கூடிய கவனம் எடுத்து அரசாங்கம் செய்யும் அனைத்து நிவாரணப்பணிகளையும், நிவாரண உதவிகளையும் பட்டியல்போட்டு காட்டவேண்டிய கடமைப்பாடும் பொறுப்பும் தங்களுக்கு உண்டு. கனரக வாகனங்கள் அங்கு அதிகமாகத் தேவைப்படுவதாகவும் கூறியுள்ளார். அவைகளை வடக்கு கிழக்கு பகுதிகளுக்கு உடனடியாக அனுப்பிவைக்கவேண்டும் எனவும் கேட்டுக்கொள்கின்றேன். இதுமட்டுமல்ல வடக்கில் மிகவும் அதிகமாகப் பாதிக்கப்பட்ட முல்லைத்தீவு, வடமாராட்சி கிழக்கு கரையோரப் பகுதிகளுக்கு நிவாரண உதவிகளையும், நிவாரணப்பணிகளையும் முடுக்கிவிட்டு அரசு தமிழ் மக்களை என்றும் கைவிடாது என்பதை நீங்கள் தமிழ் மக்களுக்கு உணர்த்தவேண்டும்.

அரசாங்கம் இந்த நிலையிலும் மனிதாபிமான ரீதியில் சிந்திக்காது போரியல் ரீதியாகவே சிந்திக்கிறது என்றும் குற்றம் சாட்டியுள்ளார். இந்தியாவில் எவ்வாறு இன்று அனைத்து கட்சிகளும் எதுவித பேதமுமின்றி ஒன்றுபட்டு மக்களுக்கு உதவுகின்றதோ அவ்வாறே அனைவரும் இங்கும் உதவவேண்டும் எனவும் கூறியுள்ளார். இலங்கை அரசியல்வாதிகள் எவரும் அவ்வாறு நடந்துகொள்ளவில்லை என்பதையும் பாதிக்கப்பட்ட மக்களை எவரும் வந்து பார்க்கவில்லை எனவும் குற்றம் சாட்டியுள்ளார். தாங்களும் பிரதம அமைச்சரும் கூட்டிய சர்வகட்சி மாநாடுகளை வடகிழக்கைப் பிரதிநிதித்துவப்படுத்துவதாகக்கூறும் 22 தமிழரசுக் கட்சிப்பாராளுமன்ற உறுப்பினர்களும் பகிஷ்கரித்துள்ள வேளையில் இக்குற்றச்சாட்டு உங்களுக்குப் பொருந்தாது என நம்புகின்றேன். இதனை நிவர்த்தி செய்யவேண்டிய பொறுப்பு 22 தமிழரசுக் கட்சிப் பாராளுமன்ற உறுப்பினர்களையே சாரும். அகதிகளைப் பார்வையிடச்சென்ற பிரதமர் தலைமையிலான குழுவுக்கு நடந்த விடயம் உலகறிந்ததே. அவர்கள் வந்து கேட்டாலும் கேட்காவிட்டாலும், இந்த நாட்டின் ஜனாதிபதி என்ற வகையில் எந்தவித பாகுபாடுமின்றி செயற்படவேண்டிய பாரிய கடமையும், பொறுப்பும் உங்களுக்கு உண்டு. நீங்கள் வெளிநாட்டிலிருந்த வேளையில் நிவாரணப்பணி, நிவாரண உதவிகள் சம்பந்தமாக எனது ஆலோசனைகளைக் கூறி பிரதமருக்கு ஒரு கடிதம் அனுப்பி அதன் பிரதியைத் தங்களுக்கும் அனுப்பியிருந்தேன்.

தென் இலங்கை அரசியல்வாதிகள் எவரும் பாதிக்கப்பட்ட மக்களை வந்து பார்க்கவில்லை என்று கடற்புலிகளின் தளபதி விசனத்துடன் கூறியதிலிருந்து, ஒன்று தெளிவாகத் தெரிகிறது. அகதிகளை பார்வையிடவந்த பிரதமர் குழுவினரை விடுதலைப் புலிகளோ, பாதிக்கப்பட்ட மக்களோ வரவேண்டாம் என ஆர்ப்பாட்டம் செய்யவில்லை. மாறாக வேடிக்கை பார்க்கவந்து மக்களின் வேதனையைப் புரியாது இந்த நேரத்திலும் வீண் வம்புபேசும் கூட்டமே இந்த ஆர்ப்பாட்டத்தைச் செய்திருக்கிறது என எண்ணத் தோன்றுகிறது.

தமிழர்களின் கலாசாரப் பண்புகளுக்கு முற்றிலும் மாறுபட்ட விதத்தில் ஒரு அனாகரிகமான ஆர்ப்பாட்டம் நடத்தியதை மனதில் வைத்துக் கொண்டு அரசு செயற்படாமல் அங்கே பாதிக்கப்பட்ட மக்களின் அவலவாழ்க்கையை எண்ணி சகல உதவிகளையும் விரைந்து செய்ய நடவடிக்கை எடுக்கவேண்டும்.

சகல அரசு இயந்திரங்களையும் இந்த இயற்கை அனர்த்தத்தால் பாதிக்கப்பட்ட கரையோர மக்களின் நல்வாழ்வுக்கு உதவ முடுக்கிவிட்டு நாட்டை கட்டியெழுப்ப வேண்டிய முக்கிய பணியில் முழுமூச்சுடன் பணிபுரிய எல்லோரும் இணையவேண்டும் எனவும் வேண்டுகின்றேன்.

யாழ்ப்பாண அனர்த்தங்களைப் பார்வையிடச் சென்ற பிரதமர் மஹிந்த ராஜபக்ஸ, ஜேவிபி பிரமுகர் விமல் வீரவன்ச அடங்கிய குழுவினருக்குநடந்த அனாகரீகமான ஆர்ப்பாட்டங்களுக்கு சம்பந்தப்பட்டவர்களோ, அல்லது யாழப்பாண மாவட்டத்தை பிரதிநிதிப்படுத்தும் பாராளுமன்ற உறுப்பினர்களோ இதுவரை மன்னிப்புக் கோராத பட்சத்தில் தமிழர்களின் சார்பில் அக்குழுவினரிடம் மன்னிப்புக் கேட்டுக் கொள்கின்றேன். நோர்வேயின் விசேட தூதுவர் எரிக் சொல்ஹேம் அவர்களை சிங்களப் பாராளுமன்ற உறுப்பினர் ஒருவர் அவமதித்துப் பேசிய வேளையில் நாட்டுமக்கள் அனைவரது சார்பாகவும் நான் உடனடியாக பாராளுமன்றத்தில் மன்னிப்புக் கோரியதையும் இந்தச் சந்தர்ப்பத்தில் நினைவுபடுத்தி, குற்றம் புரிந்தவர்கள் மன்னிப்புக் கேட்பதில் தவறில்லை என்பதையும் கூறிவைக்க விரும்புகின்றேன்.

Your Excellency,

Having witnessed the disaster the country faced on a national scale I agree with you, like many others, that henceforth we should work together to rebuild our country forgetting all our political, racial, language and religious differences.

At this juncture, I wish to draw your attention to an interview given to the Veerakesari Tamil daily by Mr. Soosai, the Chief of the Sea Tigers that the Government is showing partiality towards the Tamils of the North and that the refugees there are not receiving proper relief from the Government. He had also said in disgust that the Politicians of the South had not visited the affected areas and expressed their sympathies to the victims.

I kindly request you to disprove these allegations by publishing the list giving details of the relief items and other assistances sent to the victims of the North – more particularly to the victims of the costal belt of Mullaitivu and Vadamarachchi East. Relief to these areas must be increased. The request for heavy equipments is very reasonable and urgently required. Action should be taken immediately to send the same.

This is a good opportunity for you to impress on the Tamil people that you will not let down the Tamil People.

Mr. Soosai is accusing that the Government, even at this point of time is thinking not in terms of humanity but trying to work on a war-footing. Citing India as an example he wants all Political Parties here too, to forget their differences and work for the welfare of the victims.

Since all 22 Members of the Parliament who claim to represent the Tamil People boycotted the “All Party Conferences” convened by you and the Hon Prime Minister, it is unfair to accuse you of any lapses on your part. The 22 Federal Party Members of Parliament should take full responsibility for any lapses and it is their duties to rectify them. The whole world knows as to what happened to the Prime Minister Hon. Mahinda Rajapakse’s team of Parliamentarians including the Leader of the JVP Hon. Wimal Weerawansa which visited the refugee camps in Jaffna. Whether these Tamil Parliamentarians come to you or not, to bring your notice the needs of the victims at various places, you as the President of this Country have a big responsibility and duty bound to treat all alike. When you were out of the Country I wrote to the Prime Minister with copy to you, my proposals relating to the relief work that should be undertaken.

From the manner in which Mr. Soosai is accusing the Members of Parliament from the South it is clear that neither the LTTE nor the refugees could be blamed for this uncivilized act. Contrary to this I feel that a group of people who go about gossiping and sight seeing had organized this demonstration in a very demeaning manner. Please don’t get influenced by this kind of uncivilized acts, absolutely foreign to Tamil Culture and Civilization of which the Tamils are proud off. Instead please take in to consideration the pathetic condition of these refugees and take all steps, using the entire government machinery to do everything to bring them back to normal life.

Up to now the group that was responsible for organizing that uncivilized demonstration against the team of Parliamentarians led by PM had not tendered an apology or expressed regret. The Members of Parliament of the Jaffna District also had not expressed regret. In the absence of an apology not forthcoming, although belated, I tender my humble apologies on behalf of the Tamil People to the Prime Minister Hon. Mahinda Rajapakse, Hon. Wimal Weerawansa MP and other Ministers and Members of Parliament. One day in Parliament when the Norwegian Diplomat Mr. Eric Solheam was attacked in a demeaning manner it is I who got up and tendered my apologies on behalf of the whole Country after a brief speech explaining why and how he came to the country and got involved in the peace process amidst much embarrassment.

PRESS RELEASE

I take this opportunity to appeal to the Leadership of the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam to realise the seriousness of the situation and open its gates to the restricted areas under their control and allow free access to every organisation that volunteers to do relief work there – the Mullaitivu and the Point Pedro Electorates in particular. It is no secret that the Mullaitivu and parts of the Point Pedro Electorates have suffered heavy losses and there is undue delay in relief items reaching the unfortunate victims.

Since the victims of the tidal waves had lost everything including there kith and kin delay should not occur in rushing their basic needs. More than anything else health is not only the major problem for the refugees it is the most urgent one as well.

Very many countries have already sent in their aid in various forms to meet the urgent needs of the victims. Further more over seven hundred foreign Doctors has arrived and large stokes of Medicines also have reached Colombo. The LTTE should go all out to get the assistance from anybody to see that sufficient number of Doctors, Medicines, food items for both adults and children and a substantial number of volunteers are sent to Mullaitivu and Point Pedro areas immediately. According to reports reaching Colombo these are the areas that are most neglected in the North.

Due to our negligence the unfortunate refugees should not be deprived of what they are entitled to.

My Dear Prime Minister,

I join you in conveying my deepest sympathies to the grief stricken families who had lost their kith and kin and also their houses with all their belongings, due to the havoc created by nature.

I was listening to the reports of the commentators from various villages that are devastated by the Tidal waves. According to a press release from your office this afternoon the number of dead bodies so far recovered has touched five thousand. But according to the various reports broadcast over the radio I am sure that the number will swell by several folds.

This is such a gigantic problem that you alone cannot tackle. This is the time for all the people in this country to get to gather, forgetting all their political and ethnic differences, because the death blow dealt by nature had broken the backbone of every community in our country. The lesson we learnt is that we are all one.

I am happy that you, the business community in Sri Lanka and the general public have risen to the occasion and are doing everything possible within each one’s capacity. The aid is coming in spontaneously. Organisation such as Maharajah’s has mobilized their entire manpower and with a large donation of theirs is already in the field. Many others are preparing to follow.

The good gesture on the part of the Indian Government to give their warships and helicopters for our use and the offer of helicopters for relief work by the Pakistan Government and such other assistance from both countries is appreciable. Several other countries are getting ready with their aids of cash and kind.

For the first time in the history of our country we are facing such a large refugee problem, very difficult to manage. We have to find permanent abode to several hundred thousands of people. We have to find them a way for their living. Those who lost their kith and kin will not dare to even to near to the beach because without any warning within a couple of hours they were reduced to zero.

I suggest to you, on the arrival of Her Excellency the President in consultation with her and with your Cabinet of Ministers please negotiate with prospective donors to provide the following for the unfortunate victims of nature.

1. Provide low cost of houses for all of them in their respective villages, half a kilometer from the beach.

2. Provide loan facilities with free or low rate of interest for those who can afford to put up houses on their own.

3. Provide a substantial amount of money immediately for them to purchase their immediate requirements such as clothing etc.

4. Provide a monthly allowance for their subsistence for a specified period subject to review after a certain period.

5. Provide with implements required for their trade such as fishing nets, boats agricultural implements etc with loan facilities.

6. Construction of temporary sheds to accommodate the refugees in batches that will lease congestion in existing camps.

7. Toilet facilities wherever necessary should be provided without any delay.

I appeal to you to consider the pathetic plight of the people living in the coastal areas of Mullaitivu, Kilinochchi and Point Pedro where several thousand have died as stated by the LTTE. They have complained that no assistance has reached the victims so far from any source. Kindly take immediate action.

In conclusion I very earnestly request you to see that every relief worker acts impartially and without any bias towards any ethnic group.

I hope my suggestion will receive the serious consideration of your government.

தேர்தல் அசம்பாவிதங்கள் பற்றி வெளியிட்ட அறிக்கை.

தமிழர் விடுதலைக் கூட்டணியின் தலைவரும் அண்மையில் நடைபெற்ற பாராளுமன்றத் தேர்தலில் யாழ் மாவட்டத்தில் சுயேட்சைக்குழுவுக்குத் தலைமைதாங்கிப் போட்டியிட்டவருமாகிய திரு. வீ. ஆனந்தசங்கரி அவர்களின் தேர்தல் அசம்பாவிதங்கள் பற்றி வெளியிட்ட அறிக்கை.

உயர்ந்த ஜனநாயகக் கோட்பாடுகளுக்கு கட்டுப்பட்ட தமிழ் தலைவர்களில் ஒருவராகிய தமிழ் மக்களால் பாசத்துடன் தந்தை செல்வா என்றும், ஈழத்துக் காந்தி என்றும் அன்போடு அழைக்கப்பட்ட கியூ சி பட்டம் பெற்ற காலஞ்சென்ற தந்தை உயர்திரு சா.ஜே.வே. செல்வநாயகம் அவர்கள் தலைமையில் உருவாகிய அரசியற் கட்சியே தமிழர் விடுதலைக் கூட்டணியாகும்.

அவரால் 1949ம் ஆண்டு உருவாக்கப்பட்ட இலங்கைத் தமிழரசுக் கட்சி என்று அழைக்கப்பட்ட சமஷ்டிக் கட்சி தமிழர் விடுதலைக் கூட்டணி ஆரம்பிக்கப்பட்டதும் அவராலேயே அக்கட்சி செயலிழக்கவைக்கப்பட்டது. இக்கட்சியினை மீளப்புதுப்பிக்கும் எண்ணமே இல்லாதிருந்த அவர் இப்பொழுது நடக்கும் சம்பவங்களைப் பார்த்து அவருடைய ஆவி நிச்சயமாகச் சஞ்சலப்படும்.

1983ம் ஆண்டு அன்றைய அரசு பாராளுமன்றத்தின் கால எல்லையை சர்வசனவாக்கெடுப்பின் மூலம் நீடித்த போது தமது பாராளுமன்ற உறுப்பினர்களை தெரிவுசெய்கின்ற ஜனநாயக உரிமை மறுக்கப்பட்டதை ஆட்சேபித்து, தமிழர் விடுதலைக் கூட்டணியைச் சேர்ந்த சகல பாராளுமன்ற உறுப்பினர்களும் தமது பதவிகளை இராஜினாமாச் செய்ததன் மூலம் தமிழர் விடுதலைக் கூட்டணி பாரிய ஜனநாயகக் கட்சியாக சரித்திரத்தில் இடம்பிடித்துக் கொண்டது.

1983-1989க்கும் இடைப்பட்ட காலத்தில் இக்காலி இடங்களை நிரப்புவதற்கு நியமனப்பத்திரங்கள் பலதடவைகள் கோரப்பட்ட போதும் எவருமே நியமனப்பத்திரம் தாக்கல் செய்யாது அவ்விடங்களை காலியாகவே வைத்திருந்தது பெருமை தேடித் தந்த தமிழ் மக்களையும், அப்பாராளுமன்ற உறுப்பினர்களையும் முழு உலகமுமே பாராட்டிக்கொண்டது.

இப்பாராளுமன்ற உறுப்பினர்களை பாராளுமன்றம் செல்லவிடாது தடுப்பதற்காக அரசியற்சாசனத்தில் 6வது திருத்தப் பிரேரணை வேண்டுமென்றே கொண்டுவரப்பட்டது. 6வது திருத்தப் பிரேரணையின் கீழ் எடுக்கப்படவேண்டிய சத்தியப் பிரமாணத்தை செய்யாது பிடிவாதமாக நின்றமையால் இப்பாராளுமன்ற உறுப்பினர்கள் பாராளுமன்றம் செல்லமுடியவில்லை. இத்தகைய பெரும் பாரம்பரியத்தை தமிழர் விடுதலைக் கூட்டணி கொண்டிருந்தமையினாலேயே ஜனநாயகக் கோட்பாடுகளில் நம்பிக்கை வைத்திருக்கும் மக்கள் தமிழர் விடுதலைக் கூட்டணியை இன்றும் மதிக்கிறார்கள்.

இலங்கை தமிழ் அரசுக் கட்சியாகிய சமஷ்டிக் கட்சியின் சின்னத்தில் போட்டியிட்ட தமிழர் தேசியக் கூட்டமைப்பு 22 பாராளுமன்ற ஆசனங்களைக் கைப்பற்றியதாகவும், வடக்கு கிழக்கு மாகாண தமிழ் மக்களின் வாக்குகளில் 2ஃ3 பங்கு வாக்குகளை பெற்றதாகப் பெருமையாகக் கூறுகின்றனர். ஜனநாயகக் கோட்பாடுகளுக்கும், அகிம்சை வழிமுறைகளுக்கும் கட்டுப்பட்ட தமிழர் விடுதலைக் கூட்டணியை தமிழ்த் தேசியக் கூட்டமைப்பில் பிரதிநிதித்துவப்படுத்தும் சில உறுப்பினர்களிடம் ஜனநாயக முறைப்படி சுதந்திரமாகவும், நீதியாகவும் நடைபெற்ற தேர்தலில்தானா அவர்கள் வெற்றிபெற்றார்கள்? என்று அவர்களையே கேட்க விரும்புகின்றேன்.

தமிழ் தேசிய அமைப்பில் உள்ள முன்னைய தமிழர் விடுதலைக் கூட்டணியினர், தமிழர் விடுதலைக் கூட்டணியின் சின்னத்தைப் பெறத் தவறியபின் பலகாலமாக செயலிழந்திருந்த இலங்கைத் தமிழ் அரசுக் கட்சியின் சின்னத்தை மோசடி மூலம் பாவித்தனர். அகிம்சை முறைக்குக் கட்டுப்பட்ட இலங்கைத் தமிழரசுக் கட்சியின் ஸ்தாபகர் தமிழர் விடுதலைக் கூட்டணி ஆரம்பிக்கப்பட்டதன் பின் இலங்கைத் தமிழ் அரசுக்கட்சியை மீளப்புதுப்பிக்க எண்ணியதேயில்லை. அக்கட்சியின் ஸ்தாபகரின் கொள்கைகளுக்கு முரணானதான வன்முறை, பயமுறுத்தல், தகாத முறையில் வாக்கு மோசடி, பெருமளவில் ஆள்மாறாட்டம் முதலியவற்றைச் செய்து வெற்றிபெற்றதனை எண்ணி தமிழ்த் தேசிய அமைப்பில் உள்ள தமிழர் விடுதலைக் கூட்டணியினர் வெட்கித் தலைகுனிய வேண்டும்.

சர்வதேச சமூகம் அதன் ஸ்தானிகர்கள் முலமாகவும், பல்வேறு உள்ளுர், வெளிநாட்டுக் கண்காணிப்புக்குழு மூலமாகவும் வடக்கு கிழக்கில் தேர்தல் எவ்வாறு நடைபெற்றது என்பதை நன்கு அறிந்தே வைத்துள்ளனர். வடக்கு கிழக்கு தமிழ்மக்களை ஒன்றிணைத்து விட்டோமென்றும், இடைக்கால நிர்வாகத்தை அமைப்பதற்கு தமிழ் மக்களின் ஆணையைப் பெற்றுவிட்டோமென்ற தமிழ்த் தேசியக் கூட்டமைப்பின் கூற்றைக் கேட்டு சர்வதேச சமூகம் எள்ளி நகையாடும். தமிழ் தேசியக் கூட்டமைப்பு முழுப்பூசணிக்காயை சோற்றில் மறைக்க முயற்சிக்கக்கூடாது.

நாட்டின் நடப்புக்களை மிக அவதானத்துடன் கண்காணித்துக் கொண்டிருக்கும் சர்வதேச சமூகத்தை ஏமாற்ற முடியாது. எமது பிரச்சனையில் வெறும் பாராளுமன்ற ஆசனங்களில் கண்வைத்துச் செயற்படும் சில தமிழ் தேசியக் கூட்டமைப்பினரிலும் பார்க்க பல நன்கொடை கொடுக்கும் நாடுகள் கூடுதலாக அக்கறை கொண்டுள்ளனர் என்பதை தமிழ் தேசியக் கூட்டமைப்பினர் உணர்ந்து கொள்ளுதல் வேண்டும். நீதியாகவும் நியாயமாகவும் ஒரு தேர்தல் நடந்திருந்தால் எமது பிரச்சனையின் தீர்வில் சர்வதேச சமூகம் ஒரு உற்சாகமாக செயற்பட்டிருக்க உதவியிருக்கும். இதனை தமிழ் தேசியக் கூட்டமைப்பினர் உணரத்தவறிவிட்டனர். தேர்தலில் பல மோசடிகள் மூலம் வெற்றிபெற்றதமிழ் தேசியக் கூட்டமைப்பு தேர்தலில் நடந்த பல தில்லுமுல்லுகளை அறிந்திருக்கும் சர்வதேச சமூகத்திடமிருந்து நூறு வீத ஆதரவையோ, இவர்கள் கூறும் அத்தனையையும் சரியென்று ஏற்றுக் கொள்வார்கள் என்பதை எதிர்பார்க்கவும் கூடாது. வடக்கு கிழக்கில் நடைபெற்ற தேர்தல் செல்லுபடியற்றதாக்கவேண்டும் என்பது அனைவராலும் ஏற்றுக்கொள்ளப்பட்டதொன்று. தேர்தல் ஆணையாளர் இத்தேர்தலினை செல்லுபடியற்றதாக்கக் கூடிய அதிகாரம் தனக்கு இல்லையென்று சொன்னாரே தவிர நியாயமான முறையில், நீதியானவகையில் இத் தேர்தல்கள் நடைபெறவில்லையென்பதை ஏற்றுக்கொண்டார். பல்வேறு நாடுகளிலிருந்தும் வந்திருந்த கண்காணிப்புக் குழுக்களும், உள்ளுர் குழுக்களும் பாதகமான அறிக்கைகளையே சமர்ப்பித்தும் உள்ளனர். ஐரோப்பிய ஒன்றியம் வடக்கு கிழக்கில் நடைபெற்ற தேர்தல் மிரட்டல்களும், வன்முறைகளும் கொண்டிருந்ததாக தமது ஆதங்கங்களை வெளியிட்டனர். மட்டக்களப்பு ஐ.தே.கட்சி வேட்பாளருக்கும், தமிழ்த் தேசியக் கூட்டமைப்பின் வேட்பாளர் ஒருவருக்கும் என்ன நடந்ததென்பதை சர்வதேச சமூகம் அறிந்திருக்கவில்லையென்று தமிழ் தேசியக் கூட்டமைப்பினர் கருதுகின்றார்களா? எனது குழுவைச் சேர்ந்த வேட்பாளர்களுக்கு எத்தகைய இடைஞ்சல்களைக் கொடுத்தார்கள் என்பதையும் எவ்வாறு அவர்கள் தாக்கப்பட்டனர் என்பதும் துண்டுப்பிரசுரங்கள் பறிக்கப்பட்டு எரிக்கப்பட்டன என்பதும் உலகம் அறியாததல்ல. யாழ் மாவட்டத்தில் தேர்தல் செல்லுபடியற்றதாக்கவேண்டும் என்று சீ.எம்.ஈ.வி (CMEV) என்ற தேர்தல் கண்காணிப்புக் குழு கூறியுள்ளது.

இத் தேர்தலில் எவ்வாறு மாணவர்கள் ஆள்மாறாட்டம் செய்ய உபயோகிக்கப்பட்டார்கள் என்பதும், எவ்வாறு வாக்குப் பெட்டிகள் நிரப்பப்பட்டன என்பதும் தமிழ் தேசிய கூட்டமைப்பினருக்கு உண்மையில் தெரியாதா? உண்மையான வாக்காளர்கள் பல்வேறு சிரமங்களினால் வாக்களிக்க விடாது தடுக்கப்பட்டார்கள் என்பதையும், எவ்வாறு இடம்பெயர்ந்தவர்களினதும், இறந்தவர்களினதும் வாக்குகள் அளிக்கப்பட்டன என்பதும் இவர்கள் அறியாததா? சிறுபேரூந்துகள், முச்சக்கரவண்டிகள் போன்ற ஏனைய வாகன உரிமையாளர்கள்எவ்வாறு தமது வாகனங்களை தேர்தலுக்கு முந்திய தினம் தம்மிடம் கையளிக்க வேண்டும் என எச்சரிக்கப்பட்டனர் என்பதையும் தேர்தல் தினத்தன்று அத்தனை வாகனங்களும் எந்த அதிகாரிகளினதும் இடையூறு இன்றி பெருமளவில் வாக்கு ஆள்மாறாட்டம் செய்ய பயன்படுத்தப்பட்டதும் நீங்கள் அறியாததா? ஏந்த வாகனமும், தேர்தல் பிரசாரத்திற்காக எவருக்கும் வாடகைக்கு அமர்த்த விடக்கூடரது என்று வாகனச் சொந்தக்காரர்கள் எச்சரிக்கப்பட்டதும் இவர்கள் அறியாததா? உள்ளுர் பத்திரிகைகள் தமிழ் தேசிய அமைப்பின் தலையீடின்றி தேர்தல் விளம்பரங்கள் செய்வதற்கான உரிமையாவது வழங்கப்பட்டிருந்தனவா? விளம்பரங்களுக்கான கட்டணம் செலுத்தப்பட்டிருந்தும் இறுதி நேரத்தில் அவைகள் விளம்பரப்படுத்தாது தடுக்கப்பட்டதும் அறியாதவர்களா?

தமிழ்த் தேசிய அமைப்பு தமது பாவனைக்காக 78 மோட்டார் சைக்கிள்களையும், 6 ஜீப் வண்டிகளையும் தமது தேவைகளுக்காக பயன்படுத்தியது. அவற்றில் 48 மோட்டார் சைக்கிள்கள், 2 ஜீப் வண்டிகள் பதியப்படாத வாகனங்கள் என்பதை தமிழ் தேசிய கூட்டமைப்பினர் மறுப்பார்களா? அப்பாவி மக்களுக்கு எத்தகைய பயத்தினையும், பீதியையும் இம்மோட்டார் சைக்கிள் ஓட்டுனர்களும் உடன் இருந்து சவாரி செய்தவர்களும் ஏற்படுத்தியிருப்பார்கள் என்பதை கற்பனை பண்ணிப்பார்க்க முடியும். இவர்கள் தான் யாழ்ப்பாண குடாநாட்டில் சகல மூலைமுடுக்குகளில் எல்லாம் சென்று வாக்காளர்களை மிரட்டித் துன்புறுத்தி பிரச்சார நாட்களிலும், தேர்தல் தினத்தன்றும் செயற்பட்டதை தமிழ் தேசிய அமைப்பினர் அறியாததா? மேலும் எத்தனை வாகனங்கள் இதற்காகப் பயன்படுத்தப்பட்டனவென்பது அவர்களுக்கு மட்டுமே தெரியும்.

இளம் தீவிர ஆதரவாளர்கள் இவ்வாறு மூலைமுடுக்குகளுக்கு அதிவேகமாகச் சென்று மக்களை மிரட்டுவதும், அச்சுறுத்துவதும் சிலிர்ப்பூட்டும் செயலாக இருக்கலாம். ஆனால் எனது பழைய தமிழர் விடுதலைக் கூட்டணி நண்பர்கள் அப்பாவி மக்களை இவ்வாறு பயமூட்டுவதில் என்ன சிலிர்ப்பைக் கண்டீர்கள் என்பதைக் கேட்க விரும்புகின்றேன். அப்பாவி வாக்காளர்கள் பலரை வீட்டைவிட்டு வெளியில் வராமல் செய்யவும், பெருமளவில் ஆள்மாறாட்டம் செய்யவும் உதவியது இத்தகைய செயல்கள்தான்.

1996ம்ஆண்டு உள்ளுராட்சித் தேர்தல்களின் போதும், 2000ம் ஆண்டு பாராளுமன்றப் பொதுத் தேர்தலின்போதும் வீதிகளில் நடமாடக் கூட எவ்வாறு பயந்து செயற’பட்டார்கள் என்பதை பழைய தமிழர் விடுதலைக் கூட்டணி நண்பர்கள் மறந்திருக்க மாட்டார்கள். இத்தகைய பழைய கூட்டணித் தலைவர்கள் அகிம்சை வழியில் சென்ற எமது மறைந்த தலைவர்களுக்கு சிறிதளவேனும் மதிப்பு வைத்திருந்தால் தமது புதிய நண்பர்களுடைய வன்முறைகளைக் கண்டித்திருப்பார்கள். ஆனால் இலங்கை தமிழரசுக் கட்சி, தமிழர் விடுதலைக் கூட்டணி ஆகிய கட்சிகளின் ஆரம்பகால உறுப்பினர்கள் அமைதியாக இச்செயல்களைக் கண்டு கண்ணீர் விடுகின்றார்கள்.

சுயேட்சைக்குழு தலைவர் என்ற கோதாவில் 582 வாக்களிப்பு நிலையங்களுக்கும் தலா இருவர் வீதம் வாக்களிப்பு நிலைய முகவர்களை நியமித்திருக்கலாம். ஆனால் இந்த 572 நிலையங்களில் ஏதாவது ஒன்றில் தன்னும் எமது முகவர்களை செயற்பட தமிழ் தேசிய கூட்டமைப்பினர் விட்டார்களா? ஈழமக்கள் ஜனநாயகக் கட்சி முகவர்கள் சிலர் தாக்கப்பட்டனர். சிலர் விரட்டப்பட்டனர். சிலர் வாபஸ்பெற்றுக் கொண்டனர். அதன் விளைவாக இலங்கை தமிழரசுக் கட்சி சார்பாக போட்டியிட்ட தமிழ் தேசிய அமைப்பினர் மட்டுமே முகவர்களை நியமிக்க முடிந்தது. தமிழ் தேசிய அமைப்புக்கு இந்த வசதிகள் இருந்தபோது 95மூ அல்ல 100மூ வாக்குகள் பெறுவதற்கு இன்னும் என்ன தேவைப்பட்டன? ஏம்மால் ஒரு கூட்டமேனும் நடத்த முடியவில்லை. வாக்குச் சேகரிக்க அனுமதிக்கப்படவில்லை. பத்திரிகை விளம்பரங்கள் அனுமதிக்கப்படவில்லை. ஏற்றுக்கொள்ளப்பட்டவைகளும் தணிக்கை செய்யப்பட்டன. அவைகளும் இறுதி நேரத்தில் பிரசுரிக்க விடாது தடுக்கப்பட்டன.

கடிதமூலமாவது எங்களின் கொள்கைகள் வாக்காளர்களுக்கு அனுப்பினாலும் அவைகள் உரியவர்களைச் சென்றடையவிடாது தடுக்கப்பட்டன. அத்தோடு இடம் பெயந்தவர்கள் இறந்தவர்கள் தமக்கு மாறானவர்கள் எனக் கருதப்பட்ட உண்மையான வாக்காளர்கள் ஆகியோரின் வாக்காளர் அட்டைகளுடன் 78 மோட்டார் சைக்கிள்கள் யாழ்ப்பாணத்தில் இருந்த சகல முச்சக்கர வண்டிகள் வான்கள் சிறுபேரூந்துகள் போன்றவற்றைப் பாவித்து ஆள்மாறாட்டம் செய்தமை எல்லாவற்றிற்கும் மேலாக எந்தவொரு மாற்றுக் குழுவினரின் முகவர்கள் இல்லாமல் முறைதவறிப் பெறப்பட்ட வாக்காளர் அட்டைகள் ஒவ்வொன்றிற்கும் ஒன்றிற்கு மேற்பட்ட வாக்குச் சீட்டுக்கள் கொடுக்கப்படுகின்ற அரசாங்க உத்தியோகத்தர்கள் ஆகியோரின் ஒத்துழைப்போடு தமிழ் தேசியக் கூட்டமைப்பினர் 95 சதவீதமல்ல 100 வீதம் வாக்குகளை ஏன் பெறமுடியவில்லை உண்மையில் அவர்களுக்கிருந்த வசதிகளைப் பார்க்கும் போது விழுத்திய வாக்குகள் போதுமானவையல்ல.

வடக்கு கிழக்கு மாகாண மக்களுடைய ஆணையினையும் மூன்றில் இரண்டு வாக்குகளையும் பெற்று விட்டோம் என்று தம்பட்டம் அடிக்கும் தமிழ் தேசிய கூட்டமைப்பினர் வடக்கு கிழக்கில் உள்ள அரச கட்டுப்பாட்டில் இல்லாதபிரதேசத்தில் இருந்த நிலமையை இந்நாட்டு மக்களுக்கும் சர்வதேச சமூகத்திற்கும் எடுத்துக் கூறுவார்களா?

கிளிநொச்சி மாவட்டத்தில் பல பகுதிகளில் தெருக் கூத்து என்ற போர்வையில் என்னை மிகவும் கீழ்த்தரமான முறையில் சித்தரித்தும் பொய்யான குற்றச்சாட்டுகளை சுமத்தியும் நாடகமாடி அரசியல் பிரச்சாரத்தில் ஈடுபட்டனர். இத்தகைய குற்றச்சாட்டுகள், பிரச்சாரங்களுக்கு மறுப்புத் தெரிவித்து அல்லது மறுதலித்து பேசவோ துண்டுப் பிரசுரம் விநியோகிக்கவோ கூட்டம் வைத்து விளக்கமளிக்கவோ அனுப்பப்பட்ட கடிதங்கள் மக்களிடம் சென்றடைய கூடியவாறாக இருந்தனவா என்பதை தமிழ் தேசியக் கூட்டமைப்பு உலகிற்கு தெரிவிக்கவேண்டும்.

ஐரோப்பிய ஒன்றியத்திற்கு முழு மரியாதை செலுத்தி வன்னி கிளிநொச்சி போன்ற பகுதிகளில் மக்களுக்கு வாக்குரிமையினைப் பெற்றுக்கொடுக்க காட்டிய ஆர்வம் அரசகட்டுப்பாட்டில் இல்லாத விடுவிக்கப்படாத பிரதேசத்தில் இருந்து வருகின்ற வாக்காளர்கள் தமது வேட்பாளர்கள் யாரென்பதை அறிய எக்கட்சிக்கோ கொள்கைக்கோ வாக்களிக்க வேண்டும் என்று அறிகின்ற அடிப்படை உரிமையினை பெறுவதில் ஆர்வம் காட்டத் தவறிவிட்டனர். விடுவிக்கப்படாத பிரதேச அப்பாவி வாக்காளர்களுக்கு இவ் அடிப்படை உரிமை மறுக்கப்பட்டதை ஐரோப்பிய ஒன்றியம் அறிந்தால் நிச்சயம் அதிர்ச்சி அடையும். ஆயிரக்கணக்கானவர்கள் வாக்களிக்க வந்தார்கள். வாக்களிக்கும் தகுதியற்ற இளைஞர்களும் மாணவர்களும் வன்னியில் உள்ள யாரோ ஒரு அதிகாரியின் பணிப்பிற்கிணங்க பிறரின் வாக்கினை அளிக்க அனுமதித்திருந்தனர். அவர்களைப் பொறுத்தவரையில் அவர்களுக்கு இத்தேர்தல் வாக்களிப்பு ஒரு சுற்றுலாவாகவே இருந்தது. 1959ல் இருந்து 1983ம் ஆண்டு வரை ஏறக்குறைய 25 ஆண்டுகள் கிராம சபைத் தலைவராகவும் பட்டின சபைத் தலைவராகவும் 13 ஆண்டுகளுக்கு மேல் பாரளுமன்ற உறுப்பினராக சேவை செய்து யாழ் மாவட்டத்தில் இருந்து கிளிநொச்சியை தனிமாவட்டமாகப் பிரித்தெடுத்த எனக்கு கிளிநொச்சி தொகுதியில் 171 வாக்குகள் விழுந்தது பெரும் ஆச்சரியமல்ல. 11601 அதிகப்படி வாக்குகளால் இத்தொகுதியை வென்ற நான் தோற்பது எனது எதிரானவர்களுக்கு மகிழ்ச்சியைத் தரும் விடயமாயிருக்கலாம். ஆனால் நான் தோல்வியை ஒப்புக்கொள்ள மாட்டேன். எனது ஒரே கவலை நல்லதொரு சந்தர்ப்பம் அவர்களுக்கு கிடைத்தும் தம்மை விடுவிக்கத் தவறிவிட்டனர். நிச்சயமாக தமிழ் தேசிய அமைப்பினர் முகமாலை கொத்தணி வாக்குச் சாவடிகளில் வாக்களிப்பு ஆரம்பித்து இரண்டு மணித்தியாலங்களுக்குள் 24000 வாக்குகளுக்கு மேற்ப்பட்ட வாக்காளர்கள் வாக்களித்து விட்டனர் என்பதை தெரிந்திருப்பார்கள். “நம்ப முடியாத அளவிற்கு நிமிடத்திற்கு 3 வாக்குகள் வீதம் இங்கு வாக்களிப்பு நடந்திருக்கின்றது!”

தேர்தலில் தாம் அடைந்த வெற்றியைப் பெரிதாகக் கொக்கரிக்காமல் மிக அமைதியாகத் திருப்திப்படும்படி ஆலோசனை கூறவிரும்புகிறேன். தமிழ் தேசியக் கூட்டமைப்பில் உள்ள தமிழர் விடுதலைப் கூட்டணி உறுப்பினர்கள் சிலர் கட்சியில் பொறுப்புள்ள பதவிகள் வகுத்த முதிர்ச்சி பெற்ற உறுப்பினார்களாயிருந்தும் அனுபவமற்ற இளம் அரசியல் அனுபவம் இல்லாத இளைஞர்களுக்கு வேண்டிய ஆலோசனைகளையும் வழிநடத்தல்களினையும் கொடுக்கத் தவறியதால் இன்று அவர்கள் மோசடி மூலம் தேர்தலில் வெற்றி பெற்றார்கள் என்று அவப் பெயரினை சுமக்க வேண்டியுள்ளது. அவர்களை தனிமையில் விட்டிருந்தால் முறைப்படி சில ஆசனங்களைப் பெற்றதாக சர்வதேச சமூகத்திற்கு எடுத்துக் காட்டியிருப்பார்.

தமிழர் தேசிய அமைப்பு வடக்கு-கிழக்கு மாகாணத்தில் தேர்தல் மோசடி மூலமாக 20 ஆசனங்களைப் பெற்றன என்றும் தமிழ் தேசியக் கூட்டமைப்பு விடுதலைப் புலிகள் கூட்டு மாற்றுக் கட்சியினர் எவரையும் சுதந்திரமாக தேர்தல் பிரச்சாரத்தில் ஈடுபட அனுமதிக்கவில்லை என்பதை முழு உலகமும் அறிந்திருக்கின்றது. அத்தோடு 1960ம் ஆண்டில் இருந்து இன்று வரை 45 வருடமாக நடைபெற்ற ஒவ்வொரு பாரளுமன்றத் தேர்தல்களில் போட்டி போட்ட என்னை என் அனுபவத்தில் இன்றுவரை கண்டறியாத முறையில் தனிமைப்படுத்தி கீழ்த்தரமான முறையில் பிரச்சாரம் செய்தனர். பட்டம் பதவிக்கு கெடுப்பிடித்து தமிழ் தேசிய அணியில் உள்ள முன்னாள் தமிழர் விடுதலைக் கூட்டணியினர் எமது பகுதியில் முன்பு என்றும் கண்டும், கேட்டும் இராத வகையில் தேர்தலில் மிரட்டல், சண்டித்தனம் போன்ற புதிய கலாச்சாரத்தை அறிமுகப்படுத்தியிருக்கின்றார்கள். வடக்கு கிழக்கில் நடைபெற்ற ஆள்மாறாட்ட வீதம் இந்த நாட்டில் என்றும் கண்டிராத வகையில் நடைபெற்றுள்ளது. 20 ஆண்டு காலமாக சொல்லொணாத் துன்பங்களை அனுபவித்துக்கொண்டு வாழும் எமது மக்களை ஆண்டவன் தான் காப்பாற்ற வேண்டும். இத்தேர்தலில் தோற்ற ஒரு வேட்பாளரின் உள்ளக் குமுறல் அல்ல. வடக்கு கிழக்கு மாகாணத்தில் தேர்தல் காலத்திலும், தேர்தல் தினத்தன்றும் கடும் பயப்பீதிக்கு உள்ளாக்கப்பட்ட வாக்காளர்களின் உணர்வாகும்.

தமிழர் தேசியக் கூட்டமைப்பு பாராளுமன்ற உறுப்பினர்கள் தமது தொகுதி மக்களை எதிர் நோக்கும் தைரியம் இருக்கும் என்று நான் நம்பவில்லை. தமிழ் தேசிய அமைப்பு தேர்தலில் எத்தகைய வெற்றியைப் பெற்றது என்றறிந்த சர்வதேச சமூகம் மக்களின் ஆணையைப் பெற்றுவிட்டோம் என்ற இவர்களின் கூற்றினை நிச்சயம் எள்ளி நகையாடும். இவர்களின் கூற்று நியாயமாக சிந்திக்கும் ஒவ்வொருவருடைய உள்ளத்திலும் தப்பபிப்பிராயத்தினையே உண்டுபண்ணும். இதற்கு தமிழ் தேசிய அமைப்பில் உள்ள தமிழர் விடுதலைக் கூட்டணி உறுப்பினர்களே முழுப்பொறுப்பினையும் ஏற்க வேண்டும்.

Your Excellency,

As a Sri Lankan and also as a Tamil, realising the urgency of the situation and the responsibility cast on me, I make this appeal to you with a view to find an early solution to a problem, which concerns everyone of us.

Twenty years of war had brought only destruction for all of us without anybody wining the war. Several thousands had died leaving behind many widows, orphans and destitute persons. Hundreds of thousands of families had been displaced from their homes and are now living in refugee camps both in India and within Sri Lanka without any privacy, good food, proper clothing and education for their children. Several lakhs of Tamils had fled the country and had sought refuge in foreign countries. People who owned large mansions and sufficient resources for their comfortable living have now become paupers and are finding difficult to re-establish themselves. As a mother you can understand the sufferings and feelings of these unfortunate people better than anybody else.

I am sure Your Excellency; you will consider me as one who has the capacity and the right to advice you on matters relating to the ethnic issue. I am keen to suggest to you some ways and means to end the crisis, which should receive your serious and immediate consideration. I know the feelings of the Sinhalese, the Muslims and the Tamils in our country, since I had lived among them for many years. I had studied together with Sinhalese, Muslims and Tamils, had been taught by Sinhalese, Muslim and Tamil teachers and had also taught Sinhalese, Muslim and Tamil students. Above all Your Excellency apart from being a senior citizen in my early seventies and with about half a century of experience in Politics, at a free and fair election I polled over 36000 votes and came first out of the nine Members of Parliament elected to the Jaffna Electoral District in December 2001. The whole world knows that the election held on the 2nd of April 2004 was a fraudulent one.

I had been in Parliament with top ranking leaders of almost all Political Parties in our country. I also have to my credit the blessings and good will of the two great Tamil leaders the Late Mr. G.G. Ponnambalam Q.C. founder of the All Ceylon Tamil Congress and the Late Mr. S.J.V. Chelvanayagam Q.C. the founder of the Tamil United Liberation Front with whom I was in Parliament for one term. As such to some extent I know the thinking of many Political Leaders of this country.

More than anybody else Your Excellency you are the only one who can understand the sufferings and hardships of the widows, orphans and the destitute persons, the 20 years of war had created. You lost your beloved father to an assassin’s bullets when you were too young to bear it and the agony in seeing your widowed mother weeping and wailing over her husband’s killing. The worst experience in your life is perhaps the assassination of your dear husband and the trauma you went through in comforting the two small kids of yours, who were punished for no fault of theirs. More and more widows, orphans and destitute persons are created as every day passes even after the Cease Fire Agreement had been signed. Who else, Your Excellency, can understand the sufferings of this category of people, better than you? I do not blame you for these killings and creation of widows, orphans and destitute persons. However, it is strange that, up to now, you have not devised a scheme to rehabilitate them on your own, whether they are Tamils, Muslims or Sinhalese. I am sure you would not have forgotten the overwhelming support you got from the minority Tamils and Muslims for your election as President of Sri Lanka, which you won by a large majority of votes.

Your Excellency, as one in active politics for a long time, I have learned that the people who support us always listen to us. My experience is that the people listen to reason. It is the pressure groups in certain Political Parties that had brought the country to this state. The urge to cling on to power or efforts to please some groups bungles the Leadership. I can quote a number of examples. The Citizenship Act was the UNP’s baby of 1949. The affected people underwent untold hardship all these years. But today after fifty-five years the citizenship question is solved. Take the Language issue. The Language policy of the founder of the SLFP your father was Swabasha –meaning Sinhala and Tamil. This was resolved at the inaugural session of the SLFP. Although he was the one who introduced the Sinhala Only Act, soon after, he came to terms with the Late Mr. S.J.V. Chelvanayagam – the Leader of the Federal Party and signed a pact with him – the famous Banda – Chelva Pact, acceptable to the Tamil Leadership, and the Tamil speaking people. Obviously your father had a desire to solve not only the language problem but also many other related problems. If implemented our country would have become a Singapore. It is also said that long before he became Prime Minister, he had said, foreseeing the future, that Federalism will be the only solution for the country’s problems. Imagine, Your Excellency, if he had been given a free hand, how many thousands of lives would have been saved along with several Billions worth of private and public property. What happened after that you are aware. Mr. S.D. Bandaranayake blocked and disrupted the Procession at Imbulgoda and earned a name as the Imbulgoda Veeraya, but unfortunately your father had to give into pressure and abrogated the Pact. The same group, when found him unyielding in some other matters, plotted and assassinated him. I hope you will agree with me if I say that terrorism set its foot in the country on September 26, 1959 with the assassination of your father.

The Late President J.R. Jeyawardene also, after being President for a continuous period of 2 terms, on retirement had declared that Federalism is the only solution to the country’s ethnic problems.

The Ex-Premier of Ontario in Canada after a recent visit to Sri Lanka had given on interview to the Press to say that Federalism is the best solution to the ethnic problem in Sri Lanka.

Since the signing of the Cease Fire Agreement in February 2002 between the Government and the LTTE many had said within and outside Parliament that Federalism is the only solution to the county’s ethnic problems.

It is therefore no more a secret that the solution to our ethnic problem lies only in the adoption of a Federal Constitution. I am positively sure that there will not be any opposition from any quarters within the country for finding a solution based on a Federal Constitution. Even if there is any opposition from any quarters that can be sorted out by persuasion. The interest shown by the International Community in finding a solution to our problem should give you enough encouragement to take the matter forward.

I have discussed this matter with a number of Tamil academics and many Tamil civilians within the country and with a number of expatriates Tamils in several countries. I have also discussed our problem with many leaders of Political Parties and religious dignitaries in Sri Lanka and propose to meet many more soon. The Diplomatic Community too will give full backing for any effort, sincerely taken by you. A solution based on a Federal Constitution is acceptable to very many. I also believe that hardly anyone will object to it. A number of countries where Federalism thrives are prepared to give all assistance, if you initiate such a move.

Prof. Johan Galtung cannot be a stranger to you. I have attended a number of his seminars organised by Ms. Gudrun Kramer as project director under the auspices of the Austrian Study Centre for Peace and Conflict Resolution. I had met and discussed our problem with Hon. Bob Rae Ex-Premier of Ontario, Canada and Prof. David Cameron. All these three gentlemen visited Sri Lanka recently and Ex-Premier Bob Rae had even given a Press Interview claiming Federalism as the best solution for our problems.

Prof. Fleiner of the Institute of Federalism of Switzerland and Prof. Cheryl Saunders of the Melbourne University had been recommended by the Diplomatic circle as competent authorities to advice us on Federalism. Above all there are many countries and individuals, India in particular, ready to help us to draft a Federal Constitution. A constitution so drafted cannot be easily rejected neither by the LTTE nor by any other group, because everyone is for a fair deal to all with no special privileges for any.

Unlike some others, I am of the view that this country never faced a more favourable situation than what it faces today to find a satisfactory solution for our problem. With the International Community playing the role of the umpire, neither the LTTE nor the Government or any other opposing force can allege partiality or accuse of favouring one or the other.

This letter is being written at the request of a number of my friends from various communities who want peace and normalcy permanently in the country. It is now your sacred duty Your Excellency to rise to the occasion by forgetting all unpleasant happenings of the past and offer to draft a Federal Constitution, which will meet the aspirations of all sections of the people in the Country, without any partiality shown to any one group. By doing so you will be fulfilling the long cherished ambition of your late father Hon. S.W.R.D. Bandaranayake who dreamt to have a Federal form of government in Sri Lanka, by which he thought all problems of our Country could be solved.

What our People want today is Peace – permanent peace and normalcy.

My Dear Thamby,

I hope this letter will not surprise you. This is the third letter I am writing to you, although you had not replied to my earlier two letters.

You and I, like hundreds of thousands of Tamils living all over the world wish to see our People, settling down peacefully to lead normal life - so with the Singhalese and the Muslims. Thousands of our people had died without seeing the dawn of peace. We must see our people back to normal life during our lifetime. This is the ambition of everyone.

What happened between you and your Eastern military commander Karuna , we do not know but when I heard about the split I pleaded for unity between both of you and expressed my wish that the merger of the North and the East achieved with the greatest difficulty by TULF leaders should be retained at any cost. The rift between both of you is getting widened day by day to the detriment of the Tamil cause. I have very grave doubts of both factions getting together again, but I am fully convinced that the split has only weakened the efforts of several years of hard work and sacrifice of many. Hundreds of thousands of Tamil Youths had fled the country to seek refuge all over the world and several thousands had died in the battle front. The deaths of Singhalese and Muslim Youths are not small in number. Loss of civilian lives had exceeded sixty thousand. Countless number are in refugee camps in Sri Lanka and in India with no hopes of returning to their homes early. Several Thousand displaced persons still live at the mercy of their friends and relations with the pittance from the Government and some NGOs. Above all what people had lost and the damage to private and public property amounts to several Billions.

It is this estimation that prompted me to make this appeal to you to consider seriously the hard times ahead of you and of our people. Please cry halt to all meaningless killings whether they are in the North or in the East and take immediate steps to help to find a solution to our problem.

I am a very senior politician of Sri Lanka who had been in politics for nearly half a century. I had been associated in Parliament with the top-most leaders of almost all political parties in Sri Lanka including the late Mr S.J.V.Chelvanayagam Q.C. I was the last Tamil Politician who had the privilege of spending the last few days with the late Mr G.G. Ponnambalam Q.C the leader of the All Ceylon Tamil Congress, before his demise. Therefore I think I have the right and the capacity to advise you on any matter relating to our problem in particular and that of the country in general. I hope you will give serious consideration for my advice, which, I assure you, will never be self-centred.

As a first step please come to some terms with Karuna and prevent the loss of valuable lives on both sides. Afterall both of you worked together for several years for a common cause.

Some of your supporters all over the world had selfishly used your name for their personal gains and had let you down on a number of occasions. The damage is done more by those who, having concealed their past, claim to be strong supporters of the LTTE. Put a stop to this forth-with.

I feel it is my duty to point out what is wrong and what is right. How can we expect any Government to agree to give majority representation for the LTTE in the Interim Self Governing Authority (ISGA). Whatever we demand the concerned parties must be in a position to concede.. This demand for majority representation in the ISGA for the LTTE will only be the first step towards de-merger of the North and the East. Don't forget that the Tamils Muslims and Singhalese who live in equal numbers in the Eastern Province will tend to oppose it and a demand of this nature will only increase the demand for de-merger of the North-East. The one and the only option available for the LTTE, if they want a majority, is to win-over the minority members in the ISGA. This will also help to earn the confidence of the minorities in the ISGA.

This demand will not only compel any Government to dodge the issue but will also deter the International Community from interfering in our problems. Every one knows that with the majority in the ISGA the Chair-Person, the Chief Administrator, for the North East and all his assistants also will be members of the LTTE. The Chair-Person having powers to suspend or terminate any such appointment will mean that the LTTE wants absolute control of the North and the East through the ISGA.

Will the Tamils agree for an administration of this nature? Will the Muslims and the Singhalese agree to a set up like this and can any Government survive after conceding this demand. The Muslims who had been living with us like brothers for hundreds of years were driven out of the Northern Province with hardly any of their possessions and their lifetime savings. They are still living as displaced persons in the Districts of Anuradhapura and Puttalam, in cadjan sheds, under pitiable conditions In the absence of an open invitation for them by you to return to their respective homes, do you think that one single Muslim will ever agree to come under the Self Governing Authority, dominated by the LTTE. What about the Singhalese who left the North and also constitute one third of the population in the East. The ISGA proposals in my view have aggravated our problems and have also diminished the hopes of early settlement.

You have asked for Elections to be held after five years of administration by the ISGA and have suggested that if no settlement is reached within five years an Independent Election Commission appointed by the ISGA shall conduct free and fair elections. Can this ever happen?

Much more could be said against the powers demanded for the ISGA. In short I would say that the L'I'TE had not submitted a proposal for the Government to consider the same seriously. When some of the proposal are not acceptable even to the 'Tamils of the North and the- East how can one expect the Government to consider these proposals. The LT'TE had not proved its impartiality in any field especially in the administration of Law and order. How do you expect the Singhalese, Muslims and Tamils to have faith in your Police and your courts? Don’t you think that this move is to bring the entire North and East under the control and subjugation of the LTTE? I do not think any member of the Singhala or Muslim or even the Tamil community will agree to these proposals. What People want today is a Democratic Rule.

If you are serious in bringing back peace to our people quickly please consider my suggestion very seriously. It will definitely yield very good and quick results to the satisfaction of everybody.

There are a number of countries that have solved the problems faced by the minorities in their respective countries, satisfactorily. Many such countries are awaiting at our doorstep with numerous aid packages ready to help us to find the solution to our problems. Countries like Canada, Germany, Switzerland and India are in the forefront, with their federal type of constitutions. If assistance is sought constitutional experts, not only from these countries but also from countries like UK, USA, France, Japan, Australia and such others, will be too happy to sit down with our local experts and work together to help us draft a constitution. The drafts that have been prepared and now in the cold-storage can also be examined. Our immediate neighbour, India had adopted a constitution and had successfully worked it for a fair length of time. The Indian pattern of devolution that had stood the test of times could also be considered as a model and if necessary with suitable variations on subjects that need special considerations.

A constitution so drafted cannot be easily rejected by anybody in Sri Lanka and I hope will be acceptable to all sections of the Sri Lankan people. The International Community in such a situation can even persuade or pressurise the opponents of such a draft constitution to accept it. The Ontario’s Ex- Premier Hon. Bob Ray who visited Sri Lanka recently and studied our problem thoroughly had said that federalism is the only solution to solve the Sri Lankan problems. He is not the only person of authority to have said so.

In conclusion I wish to tell you that we should now stop playing the same old record over and over again. The whole world knows what our problem is and what the acceptable solution would be. Hence without wasting time, conceding the fact that our people cannot and should not be allowed to suffer any more, take a quick decision to workout a solution with the support of the International Community with out any further delay. You have ample opportunities even now to win-over the minority Muslims and Singhalese in the North and East. You must also convince your own cadre that those who fought very bitterly for freedom should not deprive others of their freedom and bring them under their subjugation whether they are Singhalese Tamils or Muslims.

I have discussed this matter with a number of Tamil people in several countries during my recent visit and did not come across one single person who opposed it. I am also confident that the entire, if not a larger section of the Singhalese and Muslim communities also will welcome this proposal.

I assure you that this proposal will receive the support of almost every one in this country. If you come forward to accept it, my full co-operation will be available to you in this matter. Any problem that crops up during the implementation of this proposal with regard to the future of your cadre etc can be sorted out with the co-operation and mutual understanding of all concerned parties including the International Community.

தமிழர் விடுதலைக் கூட்டணி தந்தை செல்வா அவர்களால் உயர்ந்த இலட்சியத்துடன் பல சிரமங்கள், விட்டுக்கொடுப்புக்கள் மத்தியில் சகலரினதும் மனப்பூர்வமான சம்மதத்துடன் உருவாக்கப்பட்டது. தமிழ்ப் பேசும்மக்களால் மிகவும் மதிக்கப்பட்டுவந்த, தானே உருவாக்கிய தமிழரசுக்கட்சியையும் அக்கட்சியின் சின்னமாகிய “வீடு” சின்னத்தையும் எக்காலத்திலும் எத்தேர்தல்களிலும் பயன்படுத்தக்கூடாது என எண்ணி முடக்கிவைத்துவிட்டு அன்றைய அரசின் அடக்குமுறைக்கு விடிவுகாணவும், அரசிற்கு சவாலாகவும் தமிழினத்தின் விடியலின் சுடராக, வீறுகொண்ட கதிராக தமிழர் விடுதலைக் கூட்டணியையும், அதன் சின்னமாகிய உதயசூரியனையும் தேர்ந்தெடுத்து தந்தையாலேயே கட்சி உருவாக்கப்பட்டது.

தந்தை அவர்களின் தியாக உணர்வுக்கு மதிப்பளித்து, அன்னாரின் முயற்சியின் தமிழின விடுதலையின் அப்பழுக்கற்ற எண்ணங்கள் உள்வாங்கப்பட்டிருந்ததன் உண்மையும், யதார்த்தத்தையும், விசுவாசத்தினையும் கண்டுகொண்ட அமரர் ஜீ.ஜீ. பொன்னம்பலம் அவர்களும் தாம் உருவாக்கிய அகில இலங்கைத் தமிழ்க் காங்கிரஸ் கட்சியையும் தமிழர் விடுதலைக் கூட்டணியுடன் இணைத்துக்கொண்டார். இரு பெரும் தலைவர்களும் கடந்தகால மனக் கசப்பான சம்பவங்கள் அனைத்தையும் மறந்து மனம்விட்டுப்பேசி இதயசுத்தியுடன் அமரர் சௌமியமூர்த்தி தொண்டமான் அவர்களையும் தம்முடன் இணைத்து தமிழினத்தின் விடியலுக்காய் முக்கூட்டுத் தலைவர்களாக மூவரும் தமிழினத்தின் முன்னால் பகிரங்கப்படுத்தினர்.

பல்வேறு கட்சிகளில் இருந்த பல தமிழர்கள் தமிழர் விடுதலைக் கூட்டணியின் தலைமையினை ஏற்று 18 பாராளுமன்ற உறுப்பினர்களை தேர்ந்தெடுத்தனர். தமிழர் விடுதலைக் கூட்டணி தமிழ் மக்களின் உயர் அரசியல்பீடமாக திகழ்ந்தது. தமிழ் மக்களின் உயர்பீடம் அண்மைக்காலமாக படிப்படியாக சிதைக்கப்பட்டமைக்கு முதலடி எடுத்துவைத்த பிரமுகர் யார் என்பதையும், இரண்டாவது அடிஎடுத்து வைத்த பிரமுகர் யாரென்பதையும் மக்கள் நன்கறிவர். அகில இலங்கைத் தமிழ்க் காங்கிரஸ் கட்சியும், தமிழரசுக் கட்சியும் மீள இயங்கவைக்கப்படவேண்டும் என மனதார நினைப்பதே அமரர்களான தந்தை செல்வா அவர்களுக்கும், சட்டமேதை ஜீ.ஜீ. பொன்ன்மபலம் அவர்களுக்கும் செய்யும் மாபெரும் துரோகமாகும். இத் துரோகத்தினைச் செய்பர்களை எண்ணி வேதனைப்படுவதா? வேட்கப்படுவதா? என ஏங்கும் மக்களுள் நானும் ஒருவனாக இருப்பதை மக்கள் நன்கு அறிவர். பட்டம் பதவிக்காக பலதும் செய்யும் சிலர் எதையும் செய்யத் துணிவர். ஆனாலும் உள்ளதை,உண்மையை உரிய நேரங்களில் வழிதவறும் சந்தர்ப்பங்களில் சொல்லவேண்டியதும், செய்யவேண்டியதும் என்கடமை என நான் கருதுகின்றேன். அதனை நீங்களும் ஏற்றுக்கொள்வீர்கள்.

ஏறக்குறைய 50ஆண்டுகள் அரசியலில் இணைத்துக்கொண்டுள்ள நான் என்றும், இன்றும், இனியும் இனவாதிகளுக்கோ, பேரினவாத சக்திகளுக்கோ விலை போனவனுமல்ல. விலைபோகப்போகிறவனுமல்ல. 1961ஆம் ஆண்டு நடைபெற்ற சத்தியாக்கிரகப் போராட்டம் முதல் இன்றுவரை இனத்தின் போராட்டங்களில் முன்னின்று செயற்பட்டவன் நான். பதவிக்காக பறந்து திரிந்து அலைந்து திரியாதவன் நான். எமது சுய ஆசை எமது இனத்தின் விடுதலைக்கு விலையாகிப்போய்விடக்கூடாது என்ற கண்ணியத்துடன் எனக்கு மக்கள் தந்த ஆணையினை இன்றுவரை ஒருஇலட்சியத்துடன் அரசியல் நடத்துபவன், பேசுபவன் நான். உள்ளதை உள்ளபடி நேருக்குநேர் சொல்பவனும் அதனையே செய்பவனும் நான். எக்காலத்திலும் எம்மினத்தைக் காட்டிக்கொடுத்து வாழ்வதை கனவிலும் நினையாதவன். சுதந்திரக்காற்றை முற்றுமுழுதாக சுவாசிக்க விருப்பம்கொண்டு இருக்கும் எம்மினத்தினுள் நானும் ஒருவன். நாம் பிறந்த மண்ணில் சுதந்திரமாக நடமாட, கூட்டமாக நின்று உரையாட, களங்கமற்று சிரித்துவாழ ஆசைப்படும் உங்களில் நானும் ஒருவன். சமாதான முயற்சிக்கோ, அதற்கு ஊறுவிளைவிக்கவோ எச்சந்தர்ப்பத்திலும் உடந்தையாக நான் இருக்கமாட்டேன். ஏனெனில் மக்களாகிய உங்களைவிட பெரும்பாலான சுதந்திரங்கள், உரிமைகள், மறுக்கப்பட்ட. தடுக்கப்பட்ட நிலையில் இருப்பவன்நான். எனக்கே இந்நிலையாயின், உங்கள் நிலை எவ்வாறானதாயிருக்கும் என்பதை தெரியாதவன் நானல்ல.

நாம் பிறந்தமண்ணில் சுதந்திரமாக வாழவேண்டும் என்ற பெரும் விருப்புடன் எம்மை வழிநடத்திய பெருந் தலைவர்களின் வழிகாட்டலில் கால்பதித்து நடந்துவந்து - இன்று அவர்கள் கண்ட இலட்சியக் கனவு கனிந்துவரவேண்டும் என்ற கொள்கைப்பற்றுடன் தந்தை வழிநின்று சிந்தை சிதறாது செயலாற்றவேண்டிய தேவை என்மீது சுமத்தப்பட்டுள்ளது.

என் அருமைத் தம்பிகள் மாவை. சேனாதிராசா, ரவிராஜ் போன்றவர்களில் நம்இனத்தின் எதிர்காலத்தினை ஒப்படைத்து மறைந்த தலைவர்களுக்கு துரோகம் செய்யவிரும்பாது துணிவுடன் மக்கள் கொண்டிருக்கும் நம்பிக்கையின் அடிப்படையில் இத்தேர்தலில் போட்டியிடுகின்றேன்.

தேர்தல்காலம் என்பதால் பலரும், பலவிதமான கருத்துக்களை இட்டும், வைத்தும் சொல்வார்கள். நான் எதனையும் இட்டுக்கட்டிச் சொல்லவேண்டிய தேவையில்லை. எனது அத்தனை செயற்பாடும் திறந்த புத்தகமாகவே உங்கள்முன் பரந்து விரிந்து இருப்பதும், அதன்மூலம் நீங்கள் என்மீது வைத்துள்ள பற்றுதலுக்கும் எச்சந்தர்ப்பத்திலும் குந்தகம் ஏற்படாது செயற்படுவேன் என்பதை உறுதிபடத் தெரிவிக்கின்றேன்.

தமிழ் மக்களின் உயர் அரசியல்பீடமாகிய தமிழர் விடுதலைக் கூட்டணி என்ற பெரும் விருட்சம் அடியோடு வெட்டித்தறித்து விறகாகிவிடக்கூடாது என்பதற்காகவே எக்கட்சிச் சின்னத்திலும் போட்டியிடவிரும்பாது எம்மூத்த தலைவர்களின் ஆத்ம ஆசியுடன் சுயேட்சையாக இத்தேர்தலில் போட்டியிடுகின்றேன்.

உதயசூரியன் அஸ்தமனமாகிவிட்டான் என செய்திகள் வெளிவந்தபோது எம்கட்சியில் ஒருவர் சிரித்துக்கொண்டாலும் பல்லாயிரக்கணக்கான தமிழ் நெஞ்சங்கள் வேதனைப்பட்டு உங்களின் ஆதங்கங்களை வெளிப்படுத்தி என்ன சொன்னீர்கள் என்பதை நான் மறக்காது மீண்டும் உதயசூரியன் வீறுகொண்டு எழுவான் என்ற நம்பிக்கையில் உங்கள்முன் இத்தேர்தலில் போட்டியிடுகின்றேன்.

மறைந்த அமரர்களான தந்தை செல்வா அவர்கள், சட்டமேதை ஜீ.ஜீ.பொன்னம்பலம் அவர்கள், தலைவர் சௌ. தொண்டமான் அவர்கள் எம்முடன் வாழ்ந்துகொண்டு இருக்கின்றார்கள் என்பதை அடையாளப்படுத்தும் உதயசூரியனை புகார்கள், முகில்கள், மேகங்கள் மறைத்தாலும் அது தற்காலிகமானதே. சகலதையும் உடைத்தெறிந்து மீண்டும் உதயசூரியன் பரிசுத்தமாக பிரகாசிப்பான். அதனை நிறைவேற்றும் கடமை உங்களின் ஆதரவுடன் எம்கைகளுக்கு மீண்டும் வரும் - அதுவரை ஓயாது அம்முயற்சியில் நாம் அனைவரும் இணைந்து செயற்படுவோம். வாருங்கள்.

நான் கடந்த 16.10.2004 ம் திகதி தமிழீழ விடுதலைப் புலிகள் தலைவர் திரு. வே. பிரபாகரன் அவர்களுக்கு எழுதிய கடிதத்தை ஓரளவிற்கு சகல ஊடகங்களும் வெளியிட்டன. அதில் ஒரு குறிப்பிட்ட ஊடகம், எனக்கு ஒரு முன்னுரை கொடுத்து அதன்பின்பு எனது கடிதத்தை வெளியிட்டிருந்தது. அது மட்டுமல்ல அடுத்தநாள் அதன் ஞாயிற்றுக்கிழமை(17.10.2004) பதிப்பில் அவசர அவசரமாக ஒரு ஆய்வாளரின் ஆய்வுக்கட்டுரையுடன், ஆசிரிய தலையங்கமும் தீட்டியிருந்தது.

எனது கடிதத்திற்கு சம்பந்தப்பட்டவர் கருத்துக் கூறுவதற்கு முன்பே, ஆய்வாளர்களும், பத்திரிகை ஆசிரியரும் முண்டியடித்துக்கொண்டு கருத்துக் கூறுவதால்தான் தமிழர்கள் என்றும் தலைநிமிர முடியாமல் உள்ளது. நல்ல தரத்தில் உள்ள அந்தப் பத்திரிகைக்கு நன்றாகத் தெரியும், யாழ் மாவட்டத்தில் தேர்தல் எவ்வாறு நடந்தது? எவ்வாறு நான் நிராகரிக்கப்பட்டேன்? என்று! அதுமட்டுமல்ல, தேர்தல் கண்காணிப்புக்குழுக்கள், யாழ் மாவட்டத்தில் நடந்த தேர்தல் வன்முறைகளை அறிக்கையாக வெளியிட்டு தேர்தலை இரத்துச் செய்ய வேண்டும் என சர்வதேச சமூகத்திற்கு வெளிச்சம்போட்டுக் காட்டியுள்ளன. அதனால்தான் சர்வதேச சமூகத்திற்கு முன்னால் தமிழரசுக்கட்சிப் பாராளுமன்ற உறுப்பினர்கள் ஜனநாயக விழுமியங்களைப்பற்றி பேச முடியாமல் கூனிக்குறுகிப்போயுள்ளனர்.

தேர்தலை மட்டும் ஜனநாயக முறைப்படி நடத்தி முடித்திருப்பார்களேயானால், தமிழீழ விடுதலைப் புலிகள் முற்று முழுதாக ஜனநாயக வழிக்கு வந்துவிட்டார்கள் என்று சர்வதேச சமூகமே இலங்கை அரசுக்கு அழுத்தங்களைக் கொடுத்து, எமது பிரச்சனையை முற்று முழுதாக தீர்ப்பதற்கு முழுமூச்சுடன் செயலில் இறங்கியிருக்கும். ஆனால் சர்வதேச சமூகமே இன்று சற்றுக் கூச்சத்துடன்தான் இலங்கை அரசுக்கு அழுத்தங்களைக் கொடுக்க வேண்டியிருக்கிறது. ஜனநாயக வழிக்கு வந்துவிட்டால் தமிழீழ விடுதலைப் புலிகளை முற்று முழுதாக நான் ஆதரிப்பேன். அவ்வாறு அவர்கள் ஜனநாயக விழுமியங்களை தேர்தல் காலத்தில் மீறியபோது இந்த ஊடகங்கள் எல்லாம் இடித்துரைக்காமல், ஒத்து ஊதியபடியால்தான் இன்று இந்த நிலைமை என்பதை சம்பந்தப்பட்ட ஊடகம் உணர்ந்துகொள்ள வேண்டும். அதை விடுத்து எனது கருத்துக்களுக்கு எதிர்ப்புத் தெரிவித்து எழுதுவதால் சம்பந்தப்பட்டவர்களுக்கு தற்காலிக நிவாரணம் கிடைக்குமே தவிர தமிழ் மக்களுக்கு எதுவித நன்மையும் ஏற்படப்போவதில்லை.

புரிந்துணர்வு ஒப்பந்தம் ஏற்பட்டு ஏறக்குறைய இரண்டரை வருடங்களுக்கு மேலாகிவிட்டது. இன்னும் எதுவும் நடக்கவில்லை. இந்தக் காலதாமதத்திற்கு யார்காரணம்? நமது பிரச்சனைக்கு என்ன தீர்வு என்பது நம்நாட்டுமக்கள் அனைவருக்கும் தெரியும், சர்வதேச நாடுகளுக்குப் போய்த்தான் தெரிந்துகொள்ள வேண்டிய அவசியமில்லை. வன்னியில் வயலில் வேலை செய்யும் ஒரு சாதாரண தமிழனுக்கே நன்கு தெரியும், நமக்கு எது தேவை என்று. இதற்காக நாட்டுக்கு நாடுபோய் கூடிக்குலாவி பேசவேண்டிய அவசியமில்லை. இந்தக் காலதாமதங்களுக்கெல்லாம் யார் காரணம்? அழுத்தங்களைக் கொடுக்கவேண்டிய முறையில் கொடுத்திருந்தால் பிரச்சனையை முடிவிற்குக் கொண்டுவரலாம். அதைவிடுத்து சாதாரண விசயங்களுக்கு அழுத்தங்களைக் கொடுப்பதும், மிக முக்கியமான விடயங்களை கிடப்பில்போடுவதும்தான் இன்றுவரை நடந்துகொண்டிருக்கின்றது.

சகதமிழன் ஒருவன் சாவது சம்பந்தப்பட்ட பத்திரிகைக்கு வேண்டுமானால் சாதாரணமாக இருக்கலாம். அதை வைத்து அவர்கள் வியாபாரம் நடத்தலாம், ஆனால் ஒரு மனிதாபிமானமுள்ள எவனும் அதை ஏற்றுக்கொள்ள மாட்டான். அந்தவகையில் போராடப் புறப்பட்ட இளைஞர்கள் தங்களுக்குள்ளே மோதி மரணமாவதைத் தடுக்கவே கருணாவுடன் ஒரு சமரசம் செய்துகொண்டால் என்ன? என்ற கருத்துப்பட நான் எனது கடிதத்தில் கூறியிருந்தேன். ஆனால் சம்பந்தப்பட்ட பத்திரிகை ஆசிரியர் தமிழர்களின் இரத்தத்தில் குளிர்காய நினைப்பதும், தமிழர்களின் குருதியில் வியாபாரம் செய்ய முற்படுவதும் எனக்குத் தெரியாமல் போய்விட்டது. இரத்தஆறும், வன்முறையும் இருந்தால்தான் தனது பத்திரிகை விற்பனையாகும் என்பதை தனது பத்திரிகை தர்மமாகக்கொண்டுள்ள அவருக்கு நான் இடையூறாக இருக்கின்றேன் போலும், அதனால்தான் எனது மரணத்திலும் வியாபாரம் செய்ய விளைகிறார்.

அடுத்து வடக்குகிழக்கு இணைந்த தீர்வே தமிழர் பிரச்சனைக்கு நிரந்தரதீர்வு என்பதாலேயே நான், கிழக்கில் உள்ள முஸ்லிம், சிங்களவர்களின் நம்பிக்கைக்கு பாத்திரமாக நடந்து அவர்களின் மனதை வெல்லவேண்டும் என கூறினேன். அதற்கேற்றாற்போல, அதே நாளில் முஸ்லிம் கூட்டமைப்பு பாராளுமன்ற உறுப்பினர்கள் ஒன்றுகூடி சமமான இடைக்கால நிர்வாகம் தங்களுக்கும் வேண்டும் என கூறியுள்ளார்கள், இது எதைக் காட்டுகிறது. சிறுபான்மை முஸ்லிம்களின் மனதை தமிழீழ விடுதலைப் புலிகள் வெல்லத் தவறிவிட்டார்கள் என்பதைக் காட்டவில்லையா? இந்தியாவில் சுதந்திரத்திற்குப் பின் பாகிஸ்தான் பிரிந்ததுபோல எமது சுதந்திரத்திற்குப் பின் கிழக்கு பிரிந்துவிடக் கூடாது என்ற எனது ஆதங்கமே! எனது கடிதத்தை நான் எழுதும் போது கனவில் கூட எண்ணிப்பார்க்க முடியாத அளவிற்கு ஆழத்திற்குப்போய் அலசி ஆராய்ந்த அந்த ஆய்வாளர் மேலோட்டமாக எல்லோருக்கும் தெரிந்த கருத்தை தனது ஆய்வில் காணத் தவறிவிட்டார். கிழக்கில் முஸ்லிம், சிங்கள மக்களின் மனதை வெல்லக் கூடிய சந்தர்ப்பம் விடுதலைப் புலிகளுக்கு அதிகமாகவே உண்டு. அடுத்து அரசுக்கு அழுத்தத்தை கொடுக்க சமமான இராணுவ பலமும், ஏதோ ஒருவகையில் தெரிவுசெய்யப்பட்ட தமிழரசுக் கட்சி உறுப்பினர்களின் அரசியல் பலமும் உள்ள இந்த நேரத்தில் கொடுக்க முடியாத அழுத்தத்தை அவர்கள் வேறு எந்தச் சந்தர்ப்பத்தில் கொடுத்து எமது மக்களின் பிரச்சனையைத் தீர்க்கப் போகின்றார்கள்?

அதுமட்டுமல்ல ஆய்வாளர் பழைய கதைகளையும் கிளறியுள்ளார். “ஈழம்” கேட்டு விட்டு, “மாவட்ட சபைக்கு போனது போல என்று – நான் அந்த விபரமான ஆய்வாளரிடம் ஒன்று கேட்கின்றேன். உயிரிழந்த போராளிகள் 17,000க்கு மேலானவர்கள் தமது இன்னுயிரை இழந்தது ஈழத்திற்காகத்தான், இடைக்கால நிர்வாகத்திற்கல்ல. இதை பேராசிரியர் பீஷ்மாச்சாரியார் சம்பந்தப்பட்டவர்களிடம் கேட்பாரா? கேட்டால் அவரின் நிலை என்ன? எங்களிடம் மட்டும் இடித்துக் கேட்பவர் எல்லோரையும் இடித்துக் கேட்க வேண்டும். அதுதான் பத்திரிகை தர்மம்.

அதுமட்டுமல்ல அந்த தினசரி தன்னைத்தானே “பிஞ்சிலே பழுத்தது” என்று கூறிக்கொண்டு கதை விடுகிறது. தனது உண்மை நிலையை ஒத்துக் கொள்கிறது. அந்தளவிற்கு எனக்குச் சந்தோஷமே! “பிஞ்சிலே பழுத்ததுகள் சபைக்கும் உதவாது சமூகத்திற்கும் உதவாது” தன்னைப் பிஞ்சிலே பழுத்தது என்றுகூறி தன்னைத் தாழ்த்திக் கொண்ட அந்த தினசரியைப்பற்றி மக்கள் இனித் தெரிந்துகொள்ளட்டும். பிஞ்சிலே பழுத்ததுகள் தமிழ் சமூகத்திற்குத் தேவையில்லை. அதற்கு ஒரு மறுபெயர் உண்டு “வெம்பல்கள்”. வெம்பல்கள் வேலைக்கு ஆகாது. இதற்குமேல் அந்த வெம்பல்களுக்கு விளக்கங்கள் தேவையில்லை.
